INTRODUCTION.

The breeding of Welsh Cobs began in this family nearly a hundred years ago when David Jones (Gwyn's granfather) and his brother of Esgairfynwent, Bronant nr Aberystwyth registered their first Welsh Cob mare in 1909. But there has been Welsh pony and Cob connections within Gwyn's mother's family prior to this date. Mrs Margaret Jones' grandfather, William Davies of Goyallt, Llangeitho owned Cardigan Comet II in 1877; and great grandfather John Walters of the Carrington Estate of Llanfair Clydogau near Lampeter who owned Old Douse which was the first Welsh Cob mare to be painted, the painting now owned by Dr. Wynne Davies of the Ceulan Stud.
In 1915, Gwyn's grandparents married, and moved to Coedygof farm in the picturesque Teifi Valley in 1929.The current Joneses at Coedygof, Gwyn and Rhian, are the fourth generation to breed Welsh Cobs and ponies of Cob Type on this farm.
Gwyn's grandfather, and late father John Morris Jones continued to breed Welsh Cobs during the mid 1900's, some of these animals being unregistered prior to the pedigree Llanarth sales. The prefix `Teify' was used by Gwyn's father, he showed Teify Morina (Pentre Eiddwen Comet x Teify Rosina) bred in 1951 to stand 3rd at the 1955 Royal Welsh Show at Haverfordwest. After the `Teifi' prefix was registered by another breeder, `Glanteifi' was registered as a prefix by John Morris Jones in 1965. From this time onwards, section D and C champions have been bred at this stud.
Some of the most influential winners include Glanteifi Meirion (f.1976: Lyn Cwmcoed x Glanteifi Polly) Yearling Champion at the Royal Welsh Show in 1977; winning a premium at Lampeter Stallion Show in 1979,1980,1981 and 1982; a prolific winner in hand, in harness and shown with great success under saddle by Gwyn as a youngster! (See photos on Stud page). Meirion was exported to France in 1988 where he has stood as Champion Section C on numerous occasions.

Section C’s are still successfully bred at the stud, inc. Glanteifi Morris (f.1989) Glanteifi Cadno x Glanteifi Sandra by Galnteifi Meirion) many times Champion Section C at local and national level. The most recent success with this Section has been with Glanteifi Morgan Jones (Nebo Bouncer x Glanteifi Alis by Glanteifi Morris) Champion Yearling Section C Royal Welsh Show 2003. Morgan also had an exceptional start to his showing career in 2004; winning the Section C two year old colt class, Youngstock Champion and Supreme Youngstock Champion at Lampeter Stallion Show April 2004:

Other influential stock bred at this stud include Section D stallions Glanteifi Boneddwr (f.1983) (Derwen Replica x Glanteifi Queen) several times champion in hand, under saddle and six times premium stallion Lampeter Stallion Show. His offspring are also proving very successful in hand and under saddle, notably Glanteifi Annalisa (PBW/PBA) 1st RWAS as yearling in Part Bred Arab class in 2002 and section D stallion Ochrdewi Tywysog (f.1995 ) (Glanteifi Boneddwr x Degla London Pride) many times Champion during this season, winning WPCS and NPS medal and qualifying for P.U.K in 2003     (photos of stallions on Stud page). It is hoped that this success will continue in the future with Gwyn and Rhian at the Glanteifi Stud.
